The Senator  representing Imo North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Patrick Ndubueze on Sunday narrowly escaped being kidnapped, but a Police Inspector attached to him was gunned down.


To track down men behind the attack, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma has deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad  to hunt down the killers of the Police Inspector and also that of  an Imo-based legal practitioner at two different locations.


The  unknown gunmen  also attacked a Correctional Service Farm Settlements at  Umualomoke, Okigwe.


In a statement,  the Imo Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO , Mr Henry Okoye, stated that the attack besides the death of a Police Inspector, also resulted in the release of seven (7) inmates, and abduction of the officer in charge of the Correctional Services farm settlement.


In a related development, the murdered lawyer, Victor Onwubiko, who is  resident in Uturu, Abia State, was  reportedly killed along the Okigwe-Uturu road around 9 pm on Saturday  while he was returning to the campus of Abia State University, Uturu, where he lived.


 Okoye, the Imo  Police Command’s spokesman told newsmen that  law enforcement agents are “on top of the situation” and that a press statement would be issued soon by the command.


The Imo Police boss urges the general public who may have any useful information that will assist the operatives in arresting the hoodlums responsible for the attacks to kindly report at the nearest Police Station.


He also charged the people of Imo State to go about their lawful business without any form of fear as the Command is on top of the situation and has placed adequate security measures to forestall future occurrences.


Danjuma reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the State is adequately protected, vowing  that the hoodlums responsible for the attacks would be arrested and brought to book.
