In an extraordinary milestone, Hon. Osinachi Nwaka, the Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area in Abia State, marked his 30th day in office with a commendable array of transformative initiatives. His appointment by the esteemed state governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has brought forth a period of proactive and impactful governance.



Assuming office on November 30, Mayor Nwaka has swiftly garnered widespread approval, with his Aide on Media and Publicity, Dr. Okezie Chukwuemeka, noting the "overwhelming acceptance" of his leadership. Dr. Chukwuemeka emphasized several accomplishments, including the restoration of water supply, the grading of Ikwuano LGA headquarters roads, and the successful conclusion of negotiations for the supply of 10 units of 300KVA Transformers. Additionally, Mayor Nwaka has initiated a phased plan for the grading of rural roads, exemplifying his commitment to infrastructural development and community enhancement.

As the new year unfolds, the citizens of Ikwuano can anticipate positive change under Mayor Nwaka's visionary leadership. Dr. Chukwuemeka underscored the Mayor's dedication to fulfilling promises made during his inauguration, highlighting the prompt restoration of water supply to the LGA headquarters within 48 hours of assuming office, addressing a decade-long water scarcity issue in the council.


Mayor Nwaka has tackled longstanding challenges head-on, notably addressing the lack of power supply at the council headquarters. Negotiations with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) are in the final stages, with plans underway to restore power and install transformers not only in the council but also in other communities facing similar challenges, responding to requests made by the President General of community development unions during a town meeting on December 13, 2023.


Upon assuming office, Mayor Osinachi recognized the inefficiency stemming from a lack of functional computers, prompting immediate action. A set of computers and printers were swiftly acquired to enhance efficiency and streamline administrative processes. Furthermore, Mayor Osinachi has prioritized the grading of entrance roads to the council, ensuring improved accessibility


A comprehensive plan for the grading of over 20 roads across Ikwuano and the renovation of key offices within the council is already in motion, demonstrating Mayor Osinachi's commitment to holistic development.


In his inaugural address, Mayor Nwaka emphasized the welfare of the council's staff as a top priority. True to his word, he promptly disbursed salaries to all councillors before the Christmas holidays, and the council staff received their December 2023 salary, along with a 13th-month bonus as directed by Governor Otti.


Mayor Osinachi's commitment to inclusivity is evident through his outreach efforts to party members, ensuring equitable distribution of Christmas Rice Palliatives. Notably, he extended this gesture with a donation of 10 bags to the physically challenged, exemplifying a dedication to uplifting all members of the community.


As Governor Otti's visionary approach to local government leadership unfolds, Mayor Nwaka's swift and impactful actions underscore the positive trajectory set for Ikwuano LGA. Residents, echoing sentiments expressed throughout Abia State, unequivocally declare, "Iheadiwomma" – a testament to the transformative leadership ushered in by Mayor Osinachi Nwaka.
