The Nigerian Army has said it will provide an avenue for participants to cross fertilize ideas through interactions on some selected contemporary national as well as military related issues, saying it is part of tools in combating contemporary security challenges

Making this known, at the opening of Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC) and Combat Development study held at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army, Minna, the TRADOC Commander, Major General, Adamu Abubakar Tarfa, Thursday said the study would enable participants to chart the best course in the practice of the art of warfare in the Nigerian Army in tandem with global standards.

He said , "the study period is coming up at such an auspicious time when all efforts are geared towards having a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles

"it is also in line with this objective that the theme selected for this study period is 'Examining  the Nigerian Army Doctrine and its application for Sustenance of Professionally Responsive Nigerian Army."

The Commander said the overall objective is to ensure the understanding and application of the Nigerian Army Doctrine NAD, 2020 in order to achieve the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, mission which is to have a responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional role.

Tarfa therefore urge the participants to deliberate on a Doctrine that would drive the Army in its bid to be professionally responsive in discharge of their role .

Earlier, the Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development, Major General, Benson Akinroluyo, said that the study period was organized to reiterate the emphasis on the understanding of the Nigerian Army Doctrine as an important tool in combating contemporary security challenges.

Akinroluyo noted that the enabling geo-strategic  state of achieving success in an operational environment has now become  more diverse and complex due to changing circumstances in the security and operational environments.

"The importance of sound knowledge and understanding the doctrinal provisions in the planning, conduct and execution of operations is necessary due to the increasing number of conflict and diversifying nature of warfare and threats. "

He disclosed that the  Chief of Army Staff,  COSA,  Lt Gen.Turkur Buratai, has directed TRADOC NA to produce modules for the teaching of the Nigerian Army, Doctrine in all Nigerian Army schools and also directed that the NA Doctrine should be included as part of promotion examination for middle cadre officers.
