* Dabiri-Erewa

By Tony Icheku

Chairman/CEO, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Hon. Abiike Dabiri-Erewa got more than she bargained for when her compatriots took to the tweeter Monday to register their anger over the scandalous poor services and zero human relations the Nigerian High Commission offers  in Britain.

Olukayode Oseni tweeting from @OlukayodeOseni sums up the feelings of Nigerians who had at one occasion or the other sought the services of the Commission thus

Olukayode Oseni
@OlukayodeOseni:

Those guys@d embassy think they hv monopoly of being barbaric& lazy? 1 bigger barbaric soul just treatd their fuckups! Unfortunately, he won't b sleeping@home if caught! Embassy must work4pple &  not talk down on Nigerians.Those guys nd training.D intruder needs psychological evaluatn.

Another Nigerian, Oluomo of Derby @oluomoofderby followed with this:

Spend money for hotels & travel but when we arrive it’s always another story. They give you a date but it’s never ready and they can’t even call you that it’s not ready yet. The guy was clearly frustrated but what he did is unacceptable. Nigerian embassy needs to fix up as well.

The anger of  Nigerians were stirred by the  action of  32-year old Jeffrey Apkovweta Ewohime who destroyed several properties of the Nigerian Mission, London after he failed to collect his passport at the close of business.

Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) boss, Hon.  Dabiri-Erewa who tweeted the matter on her tweeter arm described the attitude of a 32-year old  as despicable and condemnable.

Dabiri-Erewa added thast such an attitude was unpatriotic, and an unconscionable act of indiscipline

The NIDCOM boss said she received a report that "Ewohime went to the Nigeria Embassy (sic) in London on Monday, there he approached the Embassy to collect his passport which expired since Nov 2017 at about 2 p.m and was told collection of passports closes at 1pm.

"He then insisted on collecting his passport , and was told to bring his collection slip which he could not produce.

"According to reports from the Embassy, it would of course be wrong to hand over his passport to him , without his collection slip,

"He thereafter left agitated and returned from a nearby hotel to destroy about seven cars,5 belonging to the mission, and 2 to visitors who parked near by.

"Ewohime’s attempt to destroy the High Commissioner’s car failed as it is a bullet proof. He destroyed seven brand new cars, except the Ambassador’s car which is bullet proof.

“This is a despicable act, which must be condemned by all. Of course, the law must take its course,” Dabiri-Erewa said

However, majority of Nigerians who replied to her tweet, while not exonerating Ewohime, maintained that the Nigerian Mission in London needs to clean up its act as it was notorious for shoddy services and poor human relations.

According to Odepii @odepiipii

But as we know naija civil servants... they will be shouting 'go away sir it is not ready'... no sense of disappointment or customer service. This on its own can make one run mad..

Othet tweets on the matter read as follows:

Prince Olu Adebanjo
@PrinceOluAdeba

Wahooooo, this guy deserve a medal for his courage n anger mis- management skills.

OLUOMO OF DERBY
@Oluomoofderby

What he did was unacceptable but the bottom truth is that embassy has no respect for people, lack of customer service & just leave people frustrated. Have been going there for over 8 yrs now and it’s always bad news whenever you go there. They are just very rude & arrogant.

@PetsMartNg

Truth is that we just heard one side of the story. Our embassys abroad can be so unbelievably frustrating. These guys can give you a date, and when you appear, you will see a notice on their door telling you it is a public holiday in Nigeria. Why give the wrong date ab initio?

Kola St-Joel Ibitoye
@kolajele

No justification for this at all,his action is condemnable.He must be arrested & prosecuted accordingly.But having said that passport processing application shld be on a case-by-case basis.There might be reasons why he desperately needed the passport today,he shld’ve’bn helped

@olammy

This guy could have mental health issues that was triggered by the way he was treated.we all have different experience at this particular embassy.I have been there 4 times and I've not experienced anything closed to the service I received at European embassies based in London

Ola Surakat
@olammy

The service is shocking...I was there last year, I waited 4 hours just to collect my passport after I was given a date. my passport was not ready and I had to kick off then calm down and beg. These guys think they're god's...

BIDEMI
@tayo_temi

Ask NIS to redeploy, Na so so man no man dem go dey do.
Simple SMS the embassy cannot introduce. Same wahala at our embassy in Abu Dhabi. After getting fund from Foreign affairs Nigeria, they went to employ Pakistani govt security, who combine his security with clerical duties.

@jimoholalele

It can be frustrating, rather unfortunate that this guy resulted to this act of vandalism and hooliganism to register his annoyance.

F.M.O
@jnrolaolu

It can be frustrating at time but the fact is you don’t destroy other tax payers property and it’s a shame Nigerian abroad do this regularly and have been to foreign offices abroad where you wait on queue to be attended to becos they take their time taking to u 4 good service.

@larrybanky1

This is unwarranted and such person should face the full wrath of law..However, Nigerian Embassies really need to up their game. It's worse in The Hague...

Suleiman Abubakar
@slyyolde

Why are Nigerians always have issues with the embassies? Is our treatment so bad?

@GAkindele2

The govt officials both home and abroad need to sit up. They cause a lot of hardship for the citizens. I am not in support of his poor actions but the man must have been so frustrated and disappointed in the system. I am sure he will pay dearly for this and learn a lesson too.

@OnyeIgboasef

Shuaib Abdulkadir
@Akadsman

Hope they belong to the Nigerian embassy officials or they are for the Nigerian government? Even if it isn't either, what he did is good! You can't be toying with people's time. I'm sure they are purposely delaying processing his passport for no better reason than to extort him
