For his role  in the management of the Chibok girls kidnapping saga, combating terrorism and the currrent challenge of re-settling Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, The Abuja council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abuja says the  Borno state Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima deserves to be honoured

In a statement  NUJ, Abuja Press Week committee chairman,  comrade Victorson Agbenson says the decision was taken by the council in session under the leadership of Mr. Paul Ella Abechi after careful considerations.

 "The truth is that the progress which the Buhari administration has made in terms of the entire Boko Haram saga is noteworthy and significant and could not have been achieved without the commitment and sacrifice of the likes of Governor Shettima, whose home state, Borno  bore the greatest brunt of the insurgency

"So this award is the Abuja NUJ's stimulant for Governor Shettima and other stakeholders to continue the good work and ensure that the positive things happening in Borno continues, especially the release of the remaining Chibok girls", Agbenson explained

The statement says the choice of his being conferred with this award also stems  from his giant stride's in resettling the IDPs and his critical role in combating terrorisms .

 "The painstaking negotiations, and safe return of many of the abducted Chibok girls  is also a testimony to this fact. This is a pat on the back for more work to be done"

An elder statesman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur is also to be honoured during the event while Chief Tunde Ayeni, an entrepreneur would be speaking on the private sector component of the  nation's economy

The statement confirmed that the conferment of the award is expected to take place during the Union's lecture , dinner and award night on  OcOctober 28, 2017  at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers Abuja,  by 5.00pm prompt. It further indicates that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Mohammed Bello shall be the host of the occasion.
