The Abia State Executive Council rose from its weekly Exco meeting Wednesday  and announced plans to  conduct Local Government Area election in the State before the end of 2016.

The State  Commissioner for Information, Culture & Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha told  journalists after the  meeting that  the decision was taken in line with the State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu's commitment to get things done aright. He explained that  finance and other challenges hindered the past administration from holding it.

He disclosed that the Governor has directed the Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to announce dates for the election, which he said, is in tandem with the constitution.

Iwuoha added that the ABSIEC Chairman  briefed  the Exco and assured that they were ready for the election.

He also announced  that in line with the decision of the Federal government to ensure revenue collection harmonization, the Exco received and accepted the Internally Generated Revenue policy document for the State which was produced by IGR Committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu. He maintained that the State believes that the IGR policy will address all issues relating to revenue collection.
