Workers in Abia State took to the social media to slam a newspaper report that workers  owed over seven months salary arrears had been paid with the bail our fund granted to  States by the Federal Government.


 TheLedger has shared the newspaper report which painted a rosy picture of booming economy  in Abia State   on its facebook  wall, however, workers who reacted cried foul, and described the publication as  'government propaganda'.

 The report had quoted the Bailout Fund Management Committee headed by Mr. Obinna Oriaku to the effect  that "all outstanding salary arrears were
disbursed to banks for onward transmission to the workers, who
are already receiving credit alerts from their respective banks.''

 It added that a total of 15 departments, agencies and parastatals affected by the backlog of salaries had been cleared.

 It also quoted the "Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Public
Communications, Mr. Sam Hart, who stated through a press release  that the
payment of the salary arrears were carried out after verification
exercise to determine the actual number of months of accrued
salaries for each of the affected agency, department and parastatal.

 However Abians who commented described the story as deceptive.

 According to Sirgood the story is  very dangerous. "People should stop deceiving and 
 been deceived. Governor said he will pay and  still preparing the payment 
through the committee that has different agenda as program.That money is under the committee serving them profitably."

  Ubani and Solomon asked cynically  "Pls, when?@ poster"; and  "Is it here on Facebook?"

  Nwachukwu was more explicit: "Nobody in Abia State has been paid anything frm dat bail out fund".

 And  Emeruwa: "U people should stop this fake post We only received June salary today.  Which we have already used to pay part of our debts"

 While  Ajama described it as 'Pure gimmicks, You politicians should stop all yr 
gamblings and lies. Pensioneers have not received any dime from the so called 
bailout fund. The person saying that pensioneers have received their arrears of 5months  pension through bank alerts is a son of the devil and from the pit of hell. Up till now no  pensioneer has gotten anything. People should be sure of what they are saying."

 However, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Godwin Adindu who spoke to TheLedger maintained that the money has been disbursed to the banks for onward transmission to the workers.
